Its size has to be right, it has to be equally careful with energy and valuable glasses and at the same time be quiet: the average family’s dishwasher runs at least once a day. And that makes it the most effective helper that is at hand in the kitchen appliances and cooktops.
As with all devices, the first thing that counts is choosing the right size. Most dishwashers are 60 cm wide and therefore fit in cupboards or under the worktop instead of a cupboard as standard. But there are also mini dishwashers with a width of 45 cm. This 45 cm wide dishwasher is designed for the one-person household. Such a single dishwasher fits around eight to ten place settings, excluding pots and pans. In contrast, twelve to 14 place settings fit into a 60 cm wide dishwasher.
By the way: The place setting is a standardized measuring method to determine the capacity of dishwashers . A place setting comprises a dinner plate, a soup plate, a dessert plate, a saucer, a cup, a glass, a knife, a fork, a soup spoon, a dessert spoon and a teaspoon. If the nominal capacity of the dishwasher is 20, then 20 such place settings will fit. This makes it easy to estimate which size will cover your needs.
In almost all kitchens, the dishwasher drain is shared with the sink. As a rule, the dishwasher is therefore located directly after the sink. However, if you still have leeway with regard to the connections, you should seriously consider placing the dishwasher higher up. Because clearing out becomes more convenient if you don’t have to bend down all the time. But even then, placing it near the sink should be considered because of the ergonomically sensible processes: The dishes usually go into the crockery basket via the sink and garbage can stations. You can also dispose of their leftovers in the sink before they go in the dishwasher.
Tips for saving money in the dishwasher
Washing with the machine needs on average 50 percent less water and 28 percent less energy than washing by hand, according to a study by few universities. In order to save, it is important not to let the dishwasher run half empty, but only fully loaded.
Pre-rinsing under running water is superfluous with modern machines. Dispose of leftover food in the rubbish bin beforehand.
In the case of light soiling, a short or economy program at a low temperature is completely sufficient. Tip: If you do a rinse cycle at 65 degrees once a month, you can prevent fat deposits in this way.
A clogged filter lengthens the wash cycle and increases energy consumption. That is why it should be cleaned regularly.
Switch off! If you don’t leave the device in stand-by mode, you can also save electricity here.
